A brief guide to hot springs, dining, and travel directions.
Tsuetate Onsen has been in operation for 1,800 years. True to the origin of its name—meaning “cane-leaning”—it is famed for its miraculous efficacy: guests who once relied on canes for their legs and hips would, by the time they left, lean their canes against the wall and forget them entirely. The water is colorless and transparent, leaving skin silky smooth. Rich in natural moisturizing components, it is also known as the “beauty bath.” Across the river, steam rises from the bathhouses and hot springs, while labyrinthine alleys called “setoya” wind through the town—a hot spring district steeped in nostalgia. Our inn, established in 1872, is housed in a three-story wooden building dating back about a century and is among the most established inns in Tsuetate Onsen. We aim to welcome guests not only for special holidays, but also for everyday relaxation—offering reasonable rates. Our dining area (renovated from the former entrance) features a retro Japanese house interior with maple stairs, large pine beams, and fittings made from local Oguni cedar.
